Artillery Ridge Campground.. Sept 28-30 2012

After debating on a local Campground that I have NOT been to before we decided to book a site at Artillery Ridge Campground, located on the East side of Gettysburg off the Taneytown Rd. The Self proclaimed "Gettysburg National Riding Stables" accompany the campground at this location. Yes this is the horse campground in Gettysburg.

Site 93
Artillery Ridge is an older  campground. They offer the normal spectrum of sites with the twist of horse boarding installed to bring in the riders. We camped at Site 93, which after riding through the campground might just be the best site around if you like to be close the the catch and release pond and don't mind ducks. Most sites are level and there are a few old trees on the property.  This is the view from the rear of our site,  fire ring, dock and fountain within steps of our site.  Not a bad place to camp, mostly quiet, a few horses occasionally ride by and the clip clop of the shoes are comforting to me. As far as activities and things to do beyond the playground and horseshoe pits, there isn't much. Thank goodness I had my fishing rods along! Maybe they have activities with such things like hay rides, and dances only up to Labor day. Nothing going on this week for sure.

Brown's Opinion:

Just an average older campground, Friday night checking employee looked frustrated when we pulled in, and had issues directing people where to park and giving a good first impression. Camp store has all the essentials with the exception of any computers for registration. So if you want a spot at Artillery Ridge, you have to call January 1 when the "New Books" are in.. WTF?  We couldn't even rebook our site for the same sight next year.... The sites are pretty clean and the campground roads are OK, if your booking one of the big 400 series sites in the rear of the campground bring plenty of leveling gear because they are atrocious. Clean Bathrooms and WiFi are available but no Cable, an overall Average Rating From me on the campground. We will return!

Gettysburg Resident looks for place to camp!

So the family and I just bought a new camper and after a week of living in it at the Frederick Fair while our kids showed thier animals, we decided to go camping. I wanted to stay close and wanted to camp somewhere I had never been.  So I decided to pic from Round Top Campground and Artillery Ridge, both in Gettysburg. Just about 15 mins from my house. After looking at both places I placed my reservation and am arriving tomorrow night.  Having worked in the RV industry and a Camping Resort I have never really reviewed a campground. Look for my full review on Artillery Ridge come Sunday Morning!
